Beta undergraduates regularly win some of Wabash College’s top honors.

The John Maurice Butler Prize for Scholarship and Character, named for John Maurice Butler, Wabash Class of 1887, is the highest academic award attainable at Wabash College and is reserved for a member of the senior graduating class. It is considered one of the college’s top honors for an undergraduate.

The Dr. Frank H. Sparks Award for All-Around Student Achievement, named for Wabash's eighth president, is given annually to a senior “who has done much during the past year to promote the true spirit and purpose of Wabash College,” and selection is made by the Dean of Students and the Dean of the College. It is considered one of the college's top honors for an undergraduate.

The Senior Award of Merit is awarded annually by the Student Senate to that member of the senior class who, throughout his years at Wabash College, has demonstrated outstanding achievement in scholarship, service, and extracurricular activities. The award recipient is chosen exclusively by members of the student body.

The David W. Peck Medal is awarded each year by the President of the College to a senior in recognition of “promise in the law.” The award is named for David Peck, Wabash Class of 1922, a distinguished lawyer and judge.

The George Lewes Mackintosh Fellowship, named in honor of the sixth president of Wabash College, provides scholarships to six graduating seniors each year who will be attending graduate or professional schools. The recipients are designated as Mackintosh Fellows. As recently as 2017, three of the six coveted slots went to Betas.

Grade Point Average: While it is known as a well-rounded house, the Wabash Chapter of Beta Theta Pi is also known for its consistently high academic attainment.  From available historic records, only one other fraternity at Wabash has won as many Inter-Fraternity Council (IFC) scholarship trophies as Beta Theta Pi.
